Columba's Bay

Iona greenstone or serpentine is a local stone found mainly on the south west tip of Iona. Iona's western half is made of rocks known as Lewisian Gneiss, after those on the island of Lewis, and are some of the oldest rocks in the world. The Iona greenstone is a favourite stone to hunt for on the shores of St. Columba's bay and is also known as "Columba's Tears" or "Mermaid's Tears". Legend has it that if you carry a piece of Iona greenstone with you, you will never drown.

Please note that each stone is handpicked, tumbled and polished. There may be variations from stone to stone, as would be expected in a natural item.
